Off grid system components

Off-grid systems rely on batteries for storage. Over charging the batteries is prevented by a charger or regulator. It is possible to run some appliances directly from the DC power stored in these batteries (e.g. lighting, fans, pumps, etc).
To run most other electrical appliances a device called an inverter is required to change the DC power stored in your batteries to usable AC mains power.
In most system where mains power is required, a combined inverter/charger is used.
